I haven’t had all that much spare time for Photography lately, so Saturday I got up early and made some time to shoot some sunrise pictures.  I went to Blue Marsh Lake and had a good time shooting.  Even though I was there about 40 minutes before sunrise, I was not the first one there.

Luckily the sun and clouds cooperated and gave me a very nice vivid show.

I processed one more into an HDR to help bring out the foreground and the fog in the distance.

I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I did taking them :)

I did one more take on the strobist water bottle, shown below:

Natural Strawberry

As you can see I added a bit of color with the strawberries, plus as one of my Flickr friends put it, made the shot more dynamic with the falling berry.  No fancy optical sensors or photoshopping to get the falling berry in the shot, just good old fashioned hand to eye coordination and the 12 second timer on the camera.

I’m doing beverage shots this week for the dPS weekly assignment.  I used my DIY baffled snoot as a light table to allow me to light the bottles from below.  I took one of my picture frames with a glass cover apart and cleaned up the glass and put that over the top and placed the bottles on that.  One light from below though the snoot, and one on either side of the bottles through umbrellas to light the front labels of the bottle and to add depth to the lighting.  I liked the results and a couple of the better ones are shown below along with a crappy image of the setup.

Drinks Setup

If you click through on the setup shot there are a bunch of notes on Flickr about the setup and the flash settings.  As you can see this is a very high tech “studio” HA HA!

The next weekly assignment on dPS is fruits and veggies, and for my subject I picked grapes.  I have grapes in both liquid and solid form in my picture.

Spill the wine, dig that ...

Truth be told, the wine in the picture is actually black cherry jello… otherwise how would I get real wine to stay put like that while I took it’s picture.  Jello is far more cooperative about sitting still than wine is (at least in a sideways glass).  Strobist info is on Flickr for anyone interested, just click on the picture and you will be whisked away…

This was a fun picture to take, because afterwards I got to eat the subject :)

Chocolate Lava Cake

I used two flashes on this shot, a Vivitar 285HV above and behind the cake camera right;  and a Pentax 540FGZ camera left and in front of the cake.  The main light was the Vivitar at 1/8 though an umbrella, the Pentax was used for fill and was also through an umbrella at 1/16.

Oh, and the cake was delicious!
